WHITE SCALES | 2019
WHITE SCALES | 2019
Check out a magnificent testament to the evolution of abstract art—a journey fueled by my enduring passion for white charcoal and the ethereal beauty of white hues. Like a photographer with a keen eye for hidden treasures, I delved deep into the intricate details often overlooked in plain sight, only to uncover a revelation: the true essence of my artwork lies in the darkest shadows.
While my admiration for the detailed craftsmanship of my map and motorcycle paintings endured over the years, I sensed a shift in the winds—a desire to explore new horizons. Thus, armed with a mountain of white charcoal, I embarked on a quest to redefine the future of my semi-abstract creations. Yet, amidst the hundreds of hours spent perfecting my first few circle paintings, a challenge arose: the intricate patterns began to haunt my dreams, weaving their way into the fabric of my everyday life.
It became clear that relying solely on white-on-white techniques was unsustainable, a strain on both eyes and creativity alike. The solution? Base layers—a foundation upon which intricate tapestries of artistry could flourish. With each layer, the canvas took on a life of its own, evolving from light to dark in a dance of sophistication and depth.
This particular masterpiece marks a pivotal moment in my journey towards total abstraction. Yet, beneath the rich, undulating ocean blues lies a story of transformation. The initial layers, bathed in lemon yellow and bright gold, illuminate the canvas from within, infusing it with warmth and luminosity.
As the composition unfolds, a symphony of organic and geometric forms emerges, each line a delicate balance of whimsy and sophistication. Evocative of a fishing net, yet imbued with a sense of caricature, these lines weave together in perfect harmony, inviting you to explore the depths of imagination with each visit.
With every stroke, every texture, a new chapter unfolds—a testament to the boundless possibilities of art and the endless depths of creativity waiting to be discovered.
